Al Franken Live! on Tape
As I noted in a Media Alert the other day, the Jimmy Kimmel Live! show on Tuesday was hosted by Al Franken. Or the way he put it, the first former senator ever to host a late night talk show. The guests were Bob Odenkirk and Katie Porter, and musical guests Los Lobos. (Additionally, Odenkirk was joined in his second segment by the unannounced Rhea Seehorn, his co-star on Better Call Saul that ended its run the night before). It was all very enjoyable.
Franken had a very good opening monologue, which sounded like he wrote at least some of it. He also did two videotaped bits -- the first, an on-the-street segment, and for the second, he did a videotaped sketch with Odenkirk, which I’m sure Franken wrote. It was about the House Select Committee hearings and a lot of fun, and very much in his humor and style.
Here's the full opening monologue. If you’re only interested in the sketch with Odenkirk, you can jump to around the 10-minute mark. But it's all a pleasure.
