Ad It Up

As readers here may recall, I've written about a limited-series on TBS that I like very much called Miracle Workers.  It stars Daniel Radcliffe and Steve Buscemi, and the first year was based on short novel by Simon Rich and ran for 10 episodes.  The show did so well that they've done two more seasons -- with the same cast, but two totally different storylines also based on stories by Simon Rich.

I mention this all because the female lead is a wonderfully talented actress named Geraldine Viswanathan, who is very funny, bone-dry in her performance and, it turns out, from Australia.

(She also had a small, but good role in the Emmy-winning Bad Education, playing the high school student who investigates a totally-nothing story for the school paper, that keeps getting much bigger and ultimately sets the convoluted mess in motion.)

And I mention all that because, as it happens, she was in a high-profile Super Bowl ad, the one opposite Jim Carrey.  You may recall it, it's the Verizon ad where he recreated his character from The Cable Guy and is met by a young woman in her apartment who cheerfully and matter-of-factly is a terrific foil for him, to his utter frustration.  That was Geraldine Viswanathan.

I actually missed the ad when it aired, since I was at Super Bowl gathering and tended to not see most of the commercials.  But a friend who knows how much I like Miracle Workers -- and Ms. Viswanathan -- brought it to my attention, so I tracked down the ad online.  And I'm only getting around to posting it now.

My guess is that the TV ad was a minute long, but it turns out there is a 90-second version.  And since that gives us more of Jim Carrey...and Geraldine Viswanathan, that's what we're going with.
