A Very Trump Memorial Day

Over the weekend, there was a posting on Twitter that had a photo of Trump, Jr., Eric and their spouses which read, "The family that gave up everything to Save America.  Thank You!"

As weird as this was on many levels, most especially sending it on Memorial Day Weekend which honors those who actually gave up their lives fighting for the country, what was most strange was the tweet that Eric Trump posted in reply --

It's one thing for a sycophant to post such a fanboy fawning message.  It's another to be the recipient and double-down on it.  One wonders on what basis Eric Trump thinks trying to claim that he and his grifting fascist family gave up "everything" on Memorial Day Weekend, honoring those in the military who literally gave up their lives, was a good choice to make?

Further, if he gave up "everything," which would mean he and the family now would have nothing, how will they be doing that "again!"?  What else would they have to "give up."

But then, of course, what on earth did they already give up??

It would be great if he could define "everything."  As was expressed in The Princess Bride -- I don't believe the word means what he think it means.

If defining "everything" is a hurdle, though, then I'd accept him starting with...well, anything.  What anything did the Trump family give up??  Not money -- they conned their supporters and kept running the family business (since found guilty of fraud).  Not their privacy -- they were public figures, and the patriarch and daughter appeared on a network TV series.  Not what power or authority they had as prominent figures -- they were in the White House, for goodness sake.

So...what anything did they give up?

Further, what's also weird is that while trying to promote this family -- with Trump, Jr., Eric and their spouses -- the person posting the photo chose one that left out Ivanka and Jared.  Maybe that's the person's way of suggesting that Ivanka and Jared (betwen the $2 billion he got from Saudi Arabia and the 41 free trademarks she got from China) raked in even more money than the others.

And this doesn't even get into the concept of a family turning the Republican Party  fascist, its head saying he wants to be a dictator and saying he wants to throw out parts of the U.S. Constitution, dismissing the COVID pandemic as something that would go away "like a miracle" in weeks that cost America many hundreds of thousands of lives, and crashed the economy, and organized an Insurrection to try to overthrow democracy and the government, and thinking that somehow this "saved" America.

"And we'll do it again," says Eric Trump.

At least we can thank him this Memorial Day for saying the quiet part out loud.
