I haven't been able to spend a great of time following the news the past few days, as I've mentioned, but a few stories have pushed their way through the cracks, most notably Dianne Feinstein releasing the Fusion GPS transcripts. (And let me say here that I feel really badly that Chuck Grassley was upset...) I really wish she wasn't running for re-election -- not just because of her age, but more because given what a blue she represents, she is far more conservative than ideal. When she announced her candidacy, several very good potential candidates decided not to run, and they'd have been great. They'll likely run in the future, but that's six years from now. And this would have been a great year for them (among the names I heard mentioned were Congressman Adam Schiff and Eric Swallwell, both of whom I think are terrific, and Gavin Newsom, Lieutenant Governor of California. But all that aside, she did a wonderful thing.
And, yes, it was most-especially a treat to see the Steele Dossier so prominently highlight the problems for Trump because of his relationship to convicted Mafia felon Felix Sater, as I noted yesterday. But it can't be said too often... Another big story that I found fascinating was the fall of Steve Bannon, getting booted out of Breitbart. During the campaign last year, and then after the election, one of my huge concerns was his growing prominence. In my mind, he's a virulent white supremacist and anti-Semite, and to have someone like that with so much political power -- head of Trump's campaign and then his senior adviser -- AND the head of a very popular news outlet, perhaps one day forming a TV network with Trump, was highly concerning. I didn't really see an end in sight for that, and it only growing in sickness. The only hope was that such people risk destroying themselves. Well, who know that that would actually happen. Even though I envisioned a hope for it, I never expected it so soon. Not only being fired from the White House (that I could at least see him leaving), but actually being fired from Breitbart. Amazing and joyous. Huzzah.
