On Sunday, we had a clip of Mary Martin doing a classic number from Peter Pan. Here's a follow-up treat -- the entire video of when she received the Kennedy Center Honors. There's some absolutely wonderful material here, and they want all-out in the production, particularly in the re-creation of a number from Peter Pan with Charlotte D'Amboise. And if you'll recall when I mentioned how seeing Peter Pan live is a different experience, you'll note the reaction from the audience here -- and these are all sophisticate adults in tuxedos and ball gowns, not a child in sight. (And there's a hilarious tale told by one notable guest speaker.) If you want to skip past all the opening folderol introducing the evening, just to about 5-1/2 minutes in.

Ah, I miss those old CBS Special graphics and fanfare. So NBC has done The Sound of Music, they've announced Peter Pan...so what's next? South Pacific and Annie Get your Gun? What will they do when they run out of Mary Martin shows?

Ha, yeah, I know. At some point they might want to keep costs down, so they could do "I Do! I Do!," which is pretty good, and only has a 2-person cast. Still, I don't expect them to do the show that made her famous, "Leave It to Me," where she sang the seductive "My Heart Belongs to Daddy." It probably doesn't fit their "For the whole family" mandate..."
