A Heaping Helping of Hospitality

This comes from a 1993 TV special I have no recollection of.  It was called “The Legend of the Beverly Hillbillies.”  Whether it was a reminiscence show or sort of updated the story in a documentary way, I have no idea – though this particular clip suggests it was the latter.

The clip seems to come from the end of the program and has an “interview” with Jed Clampett played here as always by Buddy Ebsen at age 85.  But as interesting as that is, the reason it stands out is because that all leads to him dancing to the “Ballad of Jed Clampett” theme song…which is fun on its own, but all the more so because Buddy Ebsen began his career as a hoofer.  And he still “hoofs” pretty well here for 85.

Adding to the fun is that the song is performed on camera and features the original vocalist Jerry Scoggins, along with Earl Scruggs (who played the original theme song with his party Lester Flatt) and Roy Clark filling in for the late Lester Flatt.
