A Farewell to Melania
Over the past few weeks, we've been featuring videos with Laura Benanti, who as I've noted is a huge Broadway star, though probably best-known to many TV viewers for portraying Melania Trump -- for whom she's whimsically a pretty-close look alike -- in periodic sketches on Stephen Colbert's show. Though she's actually a huge Broadway star, who had the lead in revivals of The Sound of Music, My Fair Lady and She Loves Me, and played the title role in the revival of Gypsy, So, the description of “huge Broadway star” is not hyperbole.
For all her Broadway musical fame, though, she’s been wonderful in the Colbert sketches chatting with the host (even though, alas, when one knows what she can do, they haven’t used her to her fullest, and I suspect most viewers don’t know the breadth of her talent). And since I've only been posting Broadway videos of her, I thought it was time to at least have one video of her playing Melania. And all the better, that works out perfectly because the Colbert show had a final goodbye-Melania sketch the other day and – well, it was great. I don’t want to say more, but I think most folks here will appreciate it.
You can jump to the 3:30 mark if you want to save some time and skip the early jokes, though they’re good. But once Laura Benanti show up, she gives a fine Farewell Appearance..
