I’ve posted a lot of videos of Amy Poehler from the very start of her career, when she was the main character in a running sketch on Conan O’Brien’s late-late show. She played co-host Andy Richter’s young sister who has a major crush on Conan. They’re wonderful and stand out most especially from coming that the beginning of her career. But I think my favorite thing she’s done is when she starred in what’s perhaps a top-10 favorite SNL recurring sketch for me. And arguably my #1 favorite sketch that revolves entirely around one person. It's just a breathtaking, tour-de-force performanc. I think that they did maybe did five with the character, a little girl named Kaitiyn filled with massive energy who gets taken to places with her stepfather “Rick,” played wonderfully-patiently by Horatio Sanz – who I marvel at for not cracking up, though he does come close a couple times -- and she exhaustively bounces non-stop through each sketch. My favorite is the one when “Rick! Rick! Rick!” takes her to a music store, but unfortunately I haven’t been able to find it yet. However, I did find two (and hopefully more will turn up.) This first takes place in a mall where she decides she wants Rick!!! to let her get her ears pierced. As an added bonus, you’ll never guess who the week’s host is playing her older cousin. Even when you see her. And she's extremely famous. (No, seriously, really famous -- she's not only won an Oscar, but has seven nominations!) In fact, I had to scroll down to find out from the user comments. I won’t give it away, in case anyone wants to see if they can guess first. But I doubt most will, all the more so because it’s from 21 years ago. (I'll post who she is below the video.) She’s excellent, as is the ethereally low-key Sanz – but Amy Poehler blows everyone away. Quite a performance. But okay, as a bonus for those interested in who the famous actress is playing Becky, the older cousin of Kaitlyn, but weren't able to figure it out, I'll let you know here. I'll put a bit of a buffer in first, though, so that one's eye doesn't accidentally spot it before finishing the video. I'll get to in just a moment. But while I keep delaying, I want to reiterate that she really is very famous. And among her seven Oscar nominations and one win, she also starred in one of the highest-grossing movies of all time. And many other big hits. Okay, here is the answer -- It's Kate Winslet. Yes, the star of Titanic. And The Holiday, Finding Neverland, Avatar: The Way of Water, Iris, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Oscar-winner for The Reader, and the limited series Mare of Eastown and The Regime.
