This is a wonderful treat, and a sort of bonus to the videos I've posted the last two days of songs from the classic animated TV special Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol. It's a live concert stage-version of the animated special that was done as a benefit for the Actor's Fund in 2014. It was put on in association with Dreamworks Animation (which I assume owns the rights) and Margaret Styne, who I believe is the wife of the late-composer Jule Styne, who wrote the score with lyricist Bob Merrill. The performances and faithfulness to the original -- even with it being animated -- is superb. And for my taste, the best of all is the song that I said was the least-necessary in the TV version -- the "We're Despicable" song by the thieves. Somehow they got actors to look somewhat close to the offbeat animated characters, but most wonderful of all, those actors did their best to duplicate the comic actions and body movements of their characters (which in the animated show were over-the-top for comic effect.) But here's possibly the best news.if you live in New York City: the Actors Fund doing this stage show again...in only five days! If there are still tickets left, it will be on December 16 at the Gerald W. Lynch Theater at 7:30pm. You can see more information here. For those who can't make it, here is a joyful 3-1/2 minutes.
