Though "Winter Wonderland" is very well-known holiday song, this is just the most-joyous version, and unlike any you've ever heard, coming from one of my faves, Steve Goodman. In addition to being a joyful performance, it's as good an explanation of who great Goodman was in concert -- an impressive feat given that this is all audio.
A member of the audience shouts out a request for "Winter Wonderland." Now, first of all, who in the world requests "Winter Wonderland" at a folk music concert?? And second, what musician who take up the request and play it. But most importantly -- what musician would play a request...when He Doesn't Know The Song??!!
Steve Goodman would.
And what he ends up with is just perhaps the most joyful rendition of the song you've heard. In fairness, he does sort of know the song, but "sort of" doesn't generally cut it in a concert. Boy howdy, it sure does here.
This is what he came up with --
