And that easy access to mail in ballots, of which an all mail in election during a medical emergency is a sound and logical extension, was a REPUBLICAN platform and operation until Obama was elected. As a matter of fact, while I was still a Republican, watching the last of the liberals and moderates here in California get purged, in the early '00s; somebody in the CA GOP helpfully signed me up for permanent absentee status WITHOUT my consent or even contacting me first. The first I knew about it was after the fact. The only reasons I let it go were because it was considerably more convenient than requesting one and I never voted the party line, so they didn't get what they wanted out of their stunt, at least with me. It also made it considerably easier to get the same status when I couldn't stomach having an "R" by my name, even though I wasn't voting for any of them and changed my registration. It didn't convey automatically. Anyway, if you don't like mail in ballots in California, blame the California GOP and nobody else.

While I don't recall how California sending mail-in ballots to everyone came about -- I do know that beyond even California, mail-in voting across the country always favored Republicans...until the pandemic. Now, so much of the GOP avoids it like...well, almost literally, the Plague.
