This comes thanks to our intrepid correspondent, Eric Boardman -- not just a fine emigré of the Second City, but an alumni of the equally-named comedy troupe, in the days of Shelly Long and George Wendt. (Or they in the days of him.) The video comes from a news satire team in Australia, Clarke and Dawes. You get the sense that Sean Spicer took lessons from them in how to desperately try to make the best of a terrible situation and explain the worst away in a manner that hopefully will seem rational to at least some people.
Here, from 1991, John Clarke plays Australian Senator Bob Collins, as Bryan Dawe interviews him and tries to get to the bottom of a governmental problem.
