A few years back, Eric Idle of Monty Python wrote a song he posted on the Internet called "The FCC Song." It was cheery in its music and performance, but blisteringly scathing in its language, little of which is for the faint of heart, shredding the FCC with a litany of "F**k You Very Much" slams and then moving on to other targets throughout the then-Bush Administration.
After this week's FCC ruling ending Net Neutrality, Twitter users barraged Eric Idle for him to update his song. And -- to most people's shock -- he not only replied directly to many of them...but obligingly added a new verse! Here's the original song, for those of you who don't know it, followed by the words he posted on his website. Again, the language here is not for the faint of heart. And that brought about his tweet this morning that brought about tremendous surprise and probably even greater joy to his fans --
As I noted, he posted the lyrics for the new verse on his website. They go -- Fuck you very much the FCC For kindly ending net neutrality The Country’s in the toilet Now that Putin took a dump All over your democracy And left you all with Trump So a bunch of greedy bastards Can steal everything they see Fuck you very much the FCC.
