An equal pay for women bill -- which passed through the very Red Texas assembly and senate -- was vetoed by the Republican governor.
The bill, similar to the federal Lily Ledbetter Act, was vetoed by Gov. Perry because he said it would duplicate the federal law. What it also would have done is provide women in Texas the ability to pursue their discriminatory lawsuits through the easier and less-expensive state court system rather than, as the saying goes, make a federal case of it.
Womenfolk in Texas get paid 77 cents for every dollar that men make. In case you were interested. Which, apparently, Governor Perry is not.
