By way of reminder, as readers of these pages likely recalled, I periodically post some music by a fellow I crossed paths on Facebook a few years ago, Peter Breiner, and we’ve become friendly correspondents. To others, I'll fill in a few spaces -- he’s a classical composer-arranger-conductor-musician from Czechoslovakia who lives in New York. He’s recorded 250+ albums (I don't think I own that many...), many for Naxos. Most are classical, but he has four gems -- two each of Christmas songs (here are a couple) and Beatles songs) and arranged them to sound like they were written as Baroque pieces. He also recently composed a ballet based on “The Master and Margherita” for the Slovak National Ballet company (which was supposed to premiere in November, but sadly that’s off.) By the way, he also hosted a TV talk show in Czechoslovakia that got temporarily banned.
Anyway, the other day, let me know that he live streams an hourlong concert every Friday of him at the piano. I watched one last Friday, and it was wonderful. (I'll embed it sometime soon, upcoming.). Today's concert is devoted exclusively to musicals. It streams at 2 PM ET and at 11 AM here on the West Coast. You can find it here on his Facebook page. If there's a way I can embed it here, I'll do so -- though I wouldn't count on that. However, I suspect I'll be able to post the video here after the fact. Here is the program of what he’ll be playing. You’ll note that near the end, he is playing two selections from a musical he's written based on Anne of Green Gables. 1. George Gershwin: Girl Crazy Embraceable You The Man I Love Porgy & Bess Summertime 2. Frederick Loewe: My Fair Lady On the Street Where You Live Wouldn't It Be Loverly I Could’ve Danced All Night 3. Jerry Bock: Fiddler on the Roof Sunrise, Sunset If I Were a Rich Man 4. Leonard Bernstein: West Side Story Somewhere 5. Peter Breiner: Anne of Green Gables Follow Your Heart Green Gables 6. Cole Porter: Kiss Me Kate So In Love
