I was driving home yesterday and had MSNBC on Sirius/XM so I didn't know who was talking on the panel, but there was clearly a Democrat and Republican. They were, of course, discussing the shutdown, and the Democrat was making the point that the mid-term elections showed that the American public did not think a Wall was necessary. The Republican noted that Trump had made a compromise and asked derisively if there was anything that Trump could offer that Democrats would ever agree to. The Democrat replied again that the voters had spoken in November, and the Republican repeated his question again, was there anything Trump could offer on any issue that would ever be acceptable to Democrats.
I came close to yelling the answer at the the radio. What I wished the Democrat would have responded would have been -- Anything? "Anything"??? Yes, absolutely, there is a LOT that Trump could propose on a wide range of issues that Democrats would agree to. It just didn't have to racist, mean-spirited, misogynistic, take children from their parents, throw a religion out of the country, destroy people's health care, ignore an American territory that was dying, ignore U.S. states that were burning and enable white supremacists, but understand he represents all of the Unites States, not just his "base." So -- "anything"? Yes, absolutely, there is plenty Trump could offer that Democrats could happily, joyously support. But more to the specific point, if you're asking if there's "ANYTHING" that Trump could offer in regards to the government shutdown that Democrats would ever accept, then the answer is an unqualified "OH, MY GOD, YES!!!!!" Trump could offer the Republican bill that Senate Republican's passed and Trump said he'd support and Democrats in the House passed the very same Republican bill word-for-word. If Trump offered this same Republican bill that Republicans passed unanimously, Democrats would support it, and the Trump Shutdown would be over. Tomorrow. So -- yes, "anything"? Is there "ANYTHING" that Trump could offer that Democrats would accept????!! Anything?!! Yes!! They'd support the Republican bill they already accepted. And if you'd quit trying to be so cute and clever and disingenuous and quit trying to make a point that doesn't exist and recognized reality, you would know that, you would know the very basic and obvious and simple reality that Trump and Republicans could end this shutdown in an hour, by voting for their own bill that they voted for unanimously and Democrats voted for too, and passed. So, in answer to your smarmy question -- yes.
