When I saw this on Twitter, the person posting it did so with the comment of -- "Dog goes for the Oscar." That's too perfect. It fits spot on.

From the fine folks at The Dodo, this video has 52,000 Likes – and zero Don’t Likes. And as adorable as it is, I think it’s mostly about the guy who is such a caring, nurturing dog parent. And from the comments, most people seem to agree. Yes, this is a bit different Adorable Animal Video from the usual ones I post, but it stands out for its own reason. (It embedded weirdly, so it may look like there's no video below, but it's there, if you just click on the arrow.) The person posting it wrote, "Yeah… I still remember seeing Darth Vader the first time too." We haven't had an Adorable Animal Video from the fine folks at the Dodo in far too long, so today we rectify that with a couple of squirrels video (which, to my friend Rob Hedden, there are few things finer.) Both are about people who took in squirrels in need and what transpired -- similar tales that develop a little differently, but each with Adorable Animal finales. The first is the story of Peanut who is the one who adopted his human family. And the second is about Acorn, who was rescued at a very young age. But grew up to know he had a good idea what he wanted to do with his life. By the way, that sound you hear is Rob calling out, "Jan! Come watch these! This is what I've been telling you is how I want to live. We can do this, right??" And over the many years married, Jan has learned to tolerate him, with a warm smile and tolerant demeanor of a mother towards a rambunctious, curious child... This requires being a two-parter. You'll understand soon enough. As people here well-know, we have a lot of Broadway around these parts. So, it's only proper that on occasion we go to the dogs. That means that, thanks to the fine folks at The Dodo, we begin with an adorable Chihuahua named Casper who is obsessed with singing show tunes, joined by his good and understanding friend Pam Quinn. For what it's worth, this won me over -- on several levels -- after just seven seconds. But it builds from there. In the video above, Ms. Quinn mentions going on the show America's Got Talent with Casper. So, it's only proper that, as they say in sports, we go to the video. And here is their appearance. What I love is that Pam Quinn handles the judge's comments and the whole situation magnificently and with great, warm, unpretentious humor. As does Casper. In the first video, she mentions how Casper nailed it. Since you've already had the spoiler, I'll just reiterate -- he did. It's only nine seconds, but that's enough. I love it. What I particularly like is the dog's initial reaction -- and then the cat's. I shall say no more. |
