I came across this the other day. I really don't know the specifics about it, but if the dates on it are correct that makes it all the more surprising. Whatever the dates, it's very funny. . This is a comedy bit of Randy Rainbow supposedly auditioning for American Idol. What's so odd is that the date it's posted on is 2011. That's long before he came to fame making parody song videos about Trump and politics. I have to believe it was indeed made that year, because not only is when when it says it was posted, and it would take unlikely hacking to change the date, but each of the judges on the panel -- -- Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez and Randy Johnson -- all participated that year. My initial reaction was that even back then he made it like his videos today, editing himself into previously existing footage. But the judges reactions seem to closely related specifically to what he's doing, that it seems they were reacting to him. (Not that I'm suggesting it's a real audition, but rather a comedy bit he set up with the show's producers.) After rewatching it a few times, however, and stopping and rewinding, my guess is that it's all just his own editing and he found impeccable footage from the show or behind-the-scenes outtakes to which he timed his own material, and impressively edited them together. It's not only that -- for instance, other than at the very beginning, we never see him and the judges in the same shots, and also it's five minutes long, which would have taken at least an hour to do, and I don't see American Idol giving that much time to an unknown guy to do a comedy bit with them. And some of his jokes at the expense of the judges are so scathing, their sense of humor would have to be at an improbably high level to sit through, even knowing it's all a comedy sketch. Besides which, in the end, editing himself into other existing material is what he does today. So, I'm near certain that's what we have here. But that he was doing it in 2011 makes this spoof all the more impressive. It's extremely well done.
